Dear Ones,
In our service this past Sunday I mentioned the conversations that were held at General Assembly, and how delegates were asked to bring them back to their congregations for consideration and further conversation. Here are those questions – and I note that one of the questions I didn’t attempt to answer in the “All Your Answers Questioned” service was about making UUFB more diverse. For now, here are the questions, slightly altered:
1. What sustains us and our faith community in efforts towards inclusion, equity, and diversity?
2. What limits us from living out our faith’s promise towards liberation and transformation?
3. What should we expect of ourselves and one another in living out our covenantal relationships?
I want to encourage our various committees, teams, and groups to spend a little time in conversation about these questions. The answers are going to be a little different for each congregation, I’m sure; and, may vary from member to member.
I will be away for the next two Sundays, attending SUUSI – Southeast UU Summer Institute – in Cullowhee, NC. SUUSI is the largest annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, outside of General Assembly. While there I’ll be leading the Tuesday morning worship service, and assisting with the Tuesday evening service.
While I’m gone our Fabulous Worship Team™ will offer two great services: “Scattin’ in the Key of Gee’s Bend” with our own Jan Spencer on July 14th, and “The Information Machine” with The Rev. Debra Guthrie from our congregation in Aiken, SC.
Blessings,
Rev. Lori Hlaban
