Dear Ones,
Welcome to the Merry Month of May!
Happy Birthday to Laura Towne, founder of the Penn School (now the Penn Center), born on May 3, 1825. Miss Towne lived and worked on St. Helena Island for nearly 4 decades, making it her life’s work to ensure newly freed people had the skills and knowledge needed to forge a life after the Civil War. We are honored to be connected with the Penn Center, and to work in partnership with them.
Even as UUFB members and friends begin to depart for the cooler North for the summer, there is still much to do here!
Our Tag Sale is this Saturday, May 4th, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There are lots of treasures to be found! There are a ton of books! Come and look and buy – and bring your neighbors and friends!
Our Annual Flower Service is on May 12th. This is my favorite ritual service. I especially love that it is unique to Unitarian Universalism. I hope you’ll attend – bring a flower, or a bunch! And stay after for a special Informational Congregational Meeting. Come hear what’s happening with our committees and the Board!
See you soon!
Blessings,
Rev. Lori Hlaban
