Volunteers Needed for Second Helpings Rescued Food Distribution Site at Penn Center

Penn Center to be a Second Helpings rescued food distribution site

Beginning Friday, October 7, 2016, Penn Center will become the new food distribution agency on St. Helena Island for Second Helpings.  This food rescue program has been supported through the years by UUFBers who have had many hours of labor and fellowship on the Second Helpings truck.  Now, we have an opportunity to share the work with members of the Penn Club as we staff the new distribution center.

Currently, four members of UUFB have already volunteered, and we would like to have a group numbering 8 to 10 to call on so that no one works more than two Fridays a month.  It is expected that the effort will require two hours from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.

Project volunteers will do some or all of the following tasks:  organizing foods for access; coordinating the process; working with neighbors from the Penn community; carrying food a short distance from truck to facility; greeting people in need of food; monitoring the process; and smiling.

Who is hungry to work on a project like this?  We thank you in advance for your interest in supporting a program that feeds the hungry with volunteers from different cultures on the campus of Penn Center.
